Mental Health Awareness Month

#MentalHealthAwarenessMonth - May 2015

So, it is that time of year again #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth May 2015. Again, we see the main themes coming forward... Stigma, education and understanding. We can also see the various ways that NHS organisations are supporting this campaign. We believe that this may be the YEAR of mental health awareness, and what a refreshing relief this will be.

We are well aware that #ScienceStopsStigma, and so we are encouraging our students to share academic, research-based facts upon mental health in an effort to educate the public on the importance and impact of mental health science and research and help reduce the stigma of mental illness.

We have many mental health staff attend our leadership courses and improve care through positive innovations. One example of this was a mental health nurse who was able to secure funding for his Alcohol Liaison Team. This improved the weekend service for patients and enabled those in need to have access to care during unsociable hours. This initiative is already seeing the benefits of this initiative through improved outcomes.

Our programmes enable students to translate their visions into practice, as their work directly impacts upon NHS services. When we invest in our teams, we see the results.

- NHS Manager “What happens if we invest in developing our people and then they leave the company?” altstrat's answer -  "What happens if we don’t, and they stay?”

This is why we do what we do. This is why our programmes work.
